How This All Happened
It all began with a yellow notepad, and Ceola sitting in her living room. Always with a heart in support of women and children, she pondered a question: What happened to God's daughters? She thought about the stories she heard of her great-grandmother, Mama Lou, her grandmother, Big Mama, and her mother, Devoria — and how each generation of women had changed, right down to her. She wondered why? And from that place, she penned, not knowing what years later would become her first stage play, From Female to Woman to Lady. The production debuted at the Empress Theatre in 2017. She has been writing, directing, and producing stage plays since.
"It's amazing and in many ways, still leaves me in awe, at how your life can turn out so different than what you thought. I wanted to be an attorney, fighting for those that had no voice, and an interior decorator. I guess in many ways, I still am both… I decorate the set for all our stage plays and on occasion, I get called to decorate the homes of friends. And as for fighting for those that have no voice, I guess I am doing that as well through the powerful and communicative art forms of theater and film." — Ceola J.
